Denis Roussel Fellowship

This fellowship honors the memory of artist Denis Roussel, who inspired many to take risks in their work, step outside the boundaries of traditional images, and realize the magic of photography.

This Fellowship is tailored to help support the selected artist in reaching the next level in their artistic path and exploring possibilities to address specific needs. A group of mentors and various resources will be available to help the recipient set clear goals as they proceed. In addition, a fellowship stipend of $1,500 is awarded to achieve these goals.

The ideal candidate for the Denis Roussel Fellowship is a dedicated photo-based artist with a compelling body of work. Proposed projects can be in progress.

The application period will re-open in August of 2024.

 

This fellowship focuses on artistic development and can be used for any of the following (or more):

  • assistance to obtain a studio for the fellowship period

  • create a residency to make new work

  • internship/mentorship with a noteworthy photographer or expert for the project

  • print works for an exhibition

  • publish an artist book

  • creation and/or presentation of new work

  • travel for purposes of artistic research or presentation

  • purchase of equipment necessary to create new work

  • the development of new artistic skills

  • professional technical assistance

Portfolio Reviews

Portfolio reviews and mentor sessions with the Executive Director and Curator, Hamidah Glasgow, are available for $60 for 20 minutes (donated to the Center) email hamidah@c4fap.org to schedule an appointment.

The Kinkade Family Foundation grants will award up to $5,000 for “unexpected emergencies related to the COVID-19 epidemic.”

Photolucida is an arts non-profit whose mission is to provide platforms that expand, inspire, educate and connect the regional, national, and international photography community.

The Society for Photographic Education is a nonprofit membership organization that provides and fosters an understanding of photography as a means of diverse creative expression, cultural insight, and experimental practice. Through its interdisciplinary programs, services, and publications, the society seeks to promote a broader understanding of the medium in all its forms through teaching and learning, scholarship, and criticism.

 
 

Exhibition Proposals

 

The Center wants to see photographic and photo based work that reveals a strong personal voice and personalized approach to photography. Individual artists and group projects are encouraged to apply for exhibitions. We also encourage curators to send us proposals for exhibitions.

Thank you for your interest in The Center. We exist to serve artists and the community.

 

WHEN: February 1st and June 1st every year. Allow up to eight weeks for an email response.

WHO: We encourage proposals from artists and curators regardless of membership or residency status.

HOW: Emailed proposals are preferred at this time.

  • Email Contact@c4fap with the subject title Exhibition Proposal

  • Include a .PDF with 10 – 25 images

  • Include a statement and bio.

  • Include your name, email address, website URL, and mailing address.

  • There is no fee. Related websites and online sources may also be reviewed as part of the process.
