Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day Celebration: Photography Workshop

Course Description:

Once a year the world celebrates Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. This year it is on April 25th. Worldwide Pinhole Photography day is an international event created to promote and celebrate the art of pinhole photography. Why pinhole photography? Well, two reasons: take some time off from the increasingly technological world we live in and participate in the simple act of making a pinhole camera and image. The other reason is to share your vision and help spread the unusual beauty of this historical photographic process.

Because of its simplicity, pinhole photography is a great way to learn about how photography works. Moreover, the soft focus, distorted perspectives, and long exposure times grant unique artistic possibilities.

In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the optics behind this fascinating phenomenon and have a chance to build their own cameras. We will discuss how pinholes work and have been used artistically, but students will spend most of their time building cameras, making exposures, developing and printing their photographs in a traditional black and white darkroom. Several pre-made cameras will also be provided for students to experiment with.
