Learn the fundamentals of working in the digital darkroom in a logical and progressive manner, whether using film or digital camera.
Most of what you learn in this course is also applicable to Photoshop 6 and 7 and the latest Elements. Photoshop offers almost limitless creative opportunities. The goal of this workshop is to provide instruction in basic Photoshop skills and to offer a preview of intermediate skills. Students work at an individual computer station and follow along with the instructor.
The following topics are incorporated into the classroom sessions:
• General orientation to the work area
• Understanding palettes
• Working with tools
• Using context menus
• Exploring file management
• Image re-touching
• Image resolution - issues and selection
• Straightening and cropping
• Adjusting tonal range (light to dark)
• Removing unwanted color casts
• Adjusting saturation
• Sharpening images
• Making selections
• Introduction to using layers
• Flattening and saving files
• Use of history tool
• Optimizing file formats
• Monitor calibration
• Basics of color proofing
Requirements: a basic understanding of how to use a computer and mouse.
