Photoshop CS3 Basics

Learn the fundamentals of working in the digital darkroom in a logical and
progressive manner. This hands-on class is a must for those frustrated with learning Photoshop, or just want to ramp up their creativity. Each student will be at a computer working with CS3 right along with the instructor. Or, bring your laptop. Seating is limited so sign up now.

The course uses Photoshop CS3. Most of what you learn in this course is also applicable to Photoshop 6 and 7 and the latest Elements.

Photoshop offers almost limitless creative opportunities. The goal of this workshop it to provide you with competency in the basics and a preview of the what lies beyond. The topics are presented with you at a workstation, following the lead of your instructor. The following topics are incorporated into the learning sessions:

• General orientation to the work area
• What's on the tools palette
• Working with palettes
• Using context menus
• Exploring the file management
• Retouching an image
• Image resolution - issues and selection
• Straightening and cropping images
• Adjusting the tonal range (light to dark)
• Removing unwanted color casts
• Adjusting saturation
• Sharpening images
• Making selections
• Introduction to using layers
• Flattening and saving files
• Using the history tool to go back to an earlier state
• Optimizing file formats
• Setting up your monitor to get accurate color
• Basic of color management - how to get prints to look like those on your monitor


Requirements: a basic understanding of how to use a computer and mouse.
