The Center for Fine Art Photography is proud to announce the implementation of our premier youth photography program titled, The Face of Fort Collins. Made possible by a generous grant from the Bohemian FoundationThe Face of Fort Collins program will focus on portraiture by young students in Fort Collins aged 13 to 18 years old. The students will be assigned by their teachers to go out and take portraits of people in the Fort Collins community. The result will be a collaborative photographic mosaic of many faces by the community for the community—a hybrid Face of Fort Collins. The students will experience Fort Collins through photography and the community will experience itself through the eyes of the youth. The program will culminate with three exhibits: a gallery exhibition in the South Gallery at the Center, large scale banners, and projected images in Old Town during the Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest in August 2010.

The Center will host a structured two-week intensive workshop for highly motivated students in its new digital photography lab and workstations. A selection committee—comprised of Hamidah Glasgow, the Center’s Executive Director, and local photography teachers Jennifer Martin, Rick Ney, and Cree Bol—will select the students through an application submittal process. This class will provide the selected students with both computer-based instruction and hands-on assistance from guest photographers. Students will learn, apply, and demonstrate standards of photographic practice including composition, color, black-and-white, and various elements and principles of design. This opportunity gives students real life experience that is applicable to future photography classes, skills needed in jobs and careers, inter and intra-personal skills, and a deeper connection to their community.

The deadline for submission is May 7, 2010, and the selection committee will announce the chosen participants on May 21, 2010. The intensive classes will take place Monday through Friday during the weeks of July 5-9 and 12-16, 2010.
