Center Forward 2019

Theme: This is the Center’s annual open themed exhibition. For eight years Center Forward has featured the best images in contemporary photography and photo-based work. Emerging to established artists are encouraged to submit. All types of photographic process are eligible for selection and exhibition.

 

JURORS | Laura Moya and Hamidah Glasgow

Laura Moya |

Laura Moya is the Director of Photolucida, in Portland, Oregon. She organizes Photolucida’s biennial Portfolio Reviews event and Portland Photo Month. Laura co-curated an independent project, The Early Works Project. She has participated in Reviews events including the National Society for Photographic Education and LensCulture in Paris, and has participated in talks and panels at international festivals such as Pinyao International Photo Festival and GuatePhoto Festival. Most recently she curated photography + science for the Yixian International Photography Festival, and Hypermedia in Critical Mass for the Lishui International Photography Festival in China.

Hamidah Glasgow |

Hamidah Glasgow has been the Executive Director and Curator at The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado since 2009. Hamidah holds a master’s degree in humanities with a specialization in visual and gender studies and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Hamidah’s contribution to photography has included curatorial projects, national portfolio reviews (FotoFest, Photolucida, Medium, Center, Filter, etc.), contributions to publications and online magazines.  She received the 2018 Hal Gould Vision in Photography Award and is a co-founder of the Strange Fire Collective. This collective is dedicated to photo-based work that engages with current social and political forces, highlighting the work of women, people of color, and queer and trans artists, writers, and curators.

ARTIST IMMERSION SATURDAY

Join us for a one-on-one portfolio reviews with the Juror and Executive Director and a private portfolio share for artists to show and discuss their work, receive feedback and professional development advice. Exhibiting artists are welcome to join for all or part of the Saturday events.

ARTIST HONORS AND AWARDS

All selected artists’ work is included in the gallery exhibition and online exhibition complete with artist website links. The Center also provides professional installation images, event press release and social media promotions with an audience of 180,000+ followers internationally. All artists and friends are welcome to celebrate the exhibition with us at the Reception. Awards will be announced at the reception

  • Exhibition Dates: September 4 – September 28, 2019
  • Public + Artists’ Reception: September 7, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm

ENTRY FEE

  • MEMBER ENTRY FEE | $34 for three images.
  • NON- MEMBER ENTRY FEE |$39 for the three images.
  • ADDITIONAL IMAGES | There is no limit to the number of images that may be submitted

MEMBERSHIP

  • 1 YEAR MEMBERSHIP | $35 for Student/Senior and $50 for Individuals

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY
Founded in 2004 by photographers in Fort Collins, Colorado, The Center for Fine Art Photography is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) photography organization. We provide support to photographic artists through exhibition, promotion, portfolio reviews, publication, education and connection to a large community of other artists, curators, gallery owners and photographic professionals.

Artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant The Center for Fine Art Photography the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting the artist, Center programs, exhibitions and subsequent display on the Center’s website of current and past exhibitions.  Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. Images may be placed on social media by The Center for Fine Art Photography with artist credit.
