These early influences are reflected in my approach to photography. I am a graduate of the University of Washington Extension Certificate Program in Photography and the Artist Trust EDGE professional development program.
My photographs have been exhibited at La Familia Gallery (Seattle), the Benham Gallery (Seattle), Ouch My Eye Gallery (Seattle), the Collective Visions Gallery (Bremerton, WA), the Larson Gallery (Yakima, WA), the Newspace Gallery (Portland, OR), and the Dishman Art Center (Beaumont, TX). My images have been published in Camera Arts Magazine, the PDN Photography Annual, Maine Media Workshops Newsletter, and two Photographic Center Northwest books.
Gente de Oaxaca - The People of Oaxaca
Using natural light and a bit of serendipity, I strive to create compelling black and white photographs that provide a glimpse into aspects of the human condition. La Gente de Oaxaca - The People of Oaxaca is my series of candid photographs of people going about their daily lives in and around Oaxaca, Mexico. These images capture fleeting moments, spontaneous gestures and the ephemeral juxtaposition of people and their surroundings. They depict situations that are unexpected, mysterious, humorous, bizarre or poignant. These photos were neither posed nor staged and I did not interact with my subjects before or after photographing them. Creating these images required both quick reactions and a great deal of shoe leather. Unlike elaborately constructed set pieces or patiently composed landscapes, there are no second-takes for this type of photography. For this series, I favored complex images that contain a rich tapestry of environmental components and invite the viewer to linger and explore.
