Statement
The Great Plains of North America are a place of stark beauty and extreme climatic conditions. Vast undulating grasslands punctuated with sandstone buttes merge with a gigantic sky to form an ecosystem that sustains bison, antelope, deer, coyote and rattlesnake as well as cattle ranches and wheat farms.
Lennette Newell’s reverence for nature evolved while growing up on the high plains of Western Nebraska as the daughter of a large animal veterinarian and cattleman. Cattle, dogs, cats, peacocks and a pet skunk were a integral part of her childhood. By age six she was an accomplished horseback rider; fiercely competing in pole and barrel racing contests throughout adolescence.
