Hand Made Folded Books with Kimberly Chiaris

The focus of this workshop will be on folded paper book structures that pair well with photographic processes.

We will create books that do not require sewing. Kimberly will take you through the process of choosing and folding paper into various accordion folds and pleats. We will finish the books with covers. Some of these designs are inspired by The Art of the Fold by Hedi Kyle and Ulla Warchal and Complete Pleats and Folding Techniques by Paul Jackson.

A companion Cyanotype Class is being offered. Click here for more information.

The designs that you will learn are:

  • Basic and variant Accordion folded books Map Fold book
  • Lotus Fold book
  • Blizzard book
  • Crown book

Dates:  9/26 and 10/3 from Noon – 1 pm Mountain Time

The link to a video guide for creating these handmade books will be sent out prior to the class. Students can watch the video at their leisure before the class begins.
