About Husband, Father, Artist, and Teacher Denis Roussel:

Denis Roussel, 41,  was a talented and dedicated photographer who was beloved by his family, friends and his photography community. Denis was lost to bile duct cancer on July 12, 2017.

Denis earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering in Rennes, France before completing an MFA in photography at the University of Iowa.  He had a passion for fine art photography and is known for his work in alternative processes – most notably wet-plate collodion, cyanotypes and lumen printing. His work has been shown in many individual and group exhibitions around the country and internationally. Works are also included in permanent collections at the University of Northern Iowa and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.

He shared his passion and talents as an artist and teacher at the University of Iowa, Community College of Aurora and Metropolitan State University of Denver.  His devotion to and high expectations of students was a hallmark of his teaching. Denis loved experiencing the beauty of nature with his friends and family.  He traveled through remote mountain locations by motorcycle to capture majestic views
