Black Angeles, 42 © Dick Sanders; Juror’s Selection

It takes an impressive image to sway a juror in matters of personal taste. Case in point – Human+Being juror Phil Borges typically finds portraits against back drops off-putting. Borges was nothing less than captivated by Los Angeles photographer Dick Sanders’ Black Angeles, 42, noting that he was “riveted with its enigmatic, honest and centered presence.” Sanders‘ Black Angeles series aims to “blur the lines between personal and universal,” by photographing subjects approached in downtown Los Angeles and engaged with for no more than 2 or 3 minutes.
