Photography Basics 2
with digital and film cameras

September 12, 19 and October 3

This course refines the essential photography skills presented in Photography Basics 1 and begins building your creative talent for self expression. This course requires a understanding of camera controls, metering and basic composition as covered in Photography Basics 1. The course is taught by Larry Padgett, commercial and fine art photographer.

• Using available light for more dramatic composition
• Use of flash - on camera and off camera, bounce and filtering for effect
• Composition - incorporating design and creative camera techniques
• Metering for proper exposures under unusual or challenging situations
• Introduction to hand held meters, spot, incident, reflective and flash
• Exploring black and white film options
• Digital photography, how it differs from film
• Some easy digital techniques that are creative and fun
• Using the essential filters for black and white and color

There are assignments between sessions. You will receive helpful critiques that
will further enhance your learning.

Requirements:
A basic understanding of camera skills as taught in Photography Basics 1
A 35 mm or medium format film or digital camera with manual control of aperture and shutter speed.
A flash unit for your camera.
